During NATO-ISAF's Stage I, completed in late 2004, NATO-ISAF forces expanded into Afghanistan's northern provinces and assumed command of Provincial Reconstruction Teams in Badakhshan, Kunduz, Faryab and Balkh provinces from Operation Enduring Freedom.
